The stars were out in Friday night's Parker Invitational.

Led by record-setting performances by Janesville Parker's Shelby Demos and Beloit Memorial's Alyssa Davis, some of the state's best girls track and field athletes were on display in the ninth annual event at Monterey Stadium.

Waukesha West won the eight-team invite with 152 points, while Verona was second with 142. The host Vikings were third in the talented field with 107.

"Not only are were there some great individuals competing tonight, but there were some quality teams as well," Parker coach Dave Lehmann said. "That's why I put this invitational together, because I know it's always going to be a high-quality meet.

"We finished third, which is about where I thought we'd be, and got some great individual performances.

"Shelby set a record in the high jump, and for anyone to set a record in this meet when you think of all the good athletes that have competed, that's quite an accomplishment."

Demos, a sophomore who was competing in her first meet since suffering a foot injury two weeks ago, cleared 5 feet, 6 inches to set the record. She also finished second in the 110 high hurdles, as Lehmann chose to enter her in only two events.

Parker also got wins from sophomore Kelsey Jones in the 200 (26.9) and senior Brianna Zeilinger in the pole vault (9-6).

The Vikings 400 relay team of Kristen Heitsman, Beth Bohler, Niquisha Kenerson and Jones won with a time of 51.7.

"Our sprint relay teams did a great job tonight," Lehmann said. "We're getting better as team, and we're finally getting healthy.

"This is a great meet for us every year and tonight was no different."

Davis, a senior, bettered her previous record of 35-7.5 in winning the triple jump in 36-11.
