NEW BERLIN, Wis. - A carjacker who struck at a local service station, taking a vehicle from two men at gunpoint, handed over his own keys to the victims after they gave him theirs, police said.

Police Sgt. Brian Johnson said officers responded to the report of the armed robbery about midnight Tuesday night.

They were told that a 27-year-old West Allis man parked his white 1994 Isuzu Rodeo outside the station and went inside with his passenger, but when the two came out and got in the vehicle, a man approached with a gun.

"This subject pointed a handgun at the West Allis man and said, 'Give me your car,"' Johnson said.

They gave him the keys, and he gave them the keys to his 1998 Mercury Sable before fleeing, Johnson said.

The suspect, a 38-year-old man from Sussex, was apprehended just before noon Wednesday in Kenosha County and was being held pending formal charges. His name was not immediately released.

Johnson said the Isuzu was returned without any damage.
