CLINTON

Pam Kiefert flashed a big smile Thursday night as she signed on as superintendent of the Clinton Community School District.

And the school board heaved a huge sign of relief.

The hiring ends a months-long struggle to replace retired Administrator Becky Nodorft. Since May, two people have accepted the position, then changed their minds.

Kiefert will get to work Monday, and it was worth the wait, school board Vice President Randy Gracyalny said.

"If Pam had been part of the initial process, she would have been the top pick," he said. "And all the people who have been part of that process will be extremely happy and confident with her in this position."

Kiefert, 57, retired in June as the executive director of student achievement for the Beloit School District. A Beloit native, she had worked in the district office for eight years. Before that, she was an administrator in the Big Foot School District and an English, speech and drama teacher in the Beloit district.

Kiefert earned her bachelor's degree in 1971 from UW-Eau Claire, her master's from National-Louis University and her doctorate from Edgewood College in May.

Kiefert said she is "thrilled" to be working in a district as good as Clinton. She looks forward to setting up procedures and processes to enhance student achievement.

"Pam is just full of energy and enthusiasm," school board President Ken Luety said.

Kiefert's salary is $118,000.
