One person is dead and another person is in critical condition after two Rock County traffic accidents early this morning.
And two Sunday crashes sent two people to Mercy Hospital.
Jason L. Stacy, 29, Brodhead, died after the 1997 Pontiac Sunfire he was driving south on County K left the road, hit a tree, rolled over and struck two more trees before landing on its roof and bursting into flames south of Orfordville.
Stacy was thrown from the vehicle that landed in a wooded area about 50 feet east of County K and Hafeman Road in Plymouth Township, according to the Rock County Sheriff's Department.
Excessive speed is considered to be a factor in the accident that happened at 3:45 a.m. Orfordville Fire and EMS also assisted at the scene.
Deputies believe Stacy was not wearing a seatbelt.
The sheriff's department also is investigating crashes:
-- At about 4 a.m. today at 12118 W. County B near Footville.
They found Justin Craft, 23, Evansville, pinned in his 1999 Chevy Silverado pickup truck. Craft was extricated by firefighters and transported to Mercy Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition this morning.
No other details of the accident were available.
-- At about 12:43 a.m. Sunday on County O just east of County J southeast of Janesville in La Prairie Township.
Christopher M. Case, 19, Beloit, was eastbound on County O when his 2001 Chevy Cavalier left the road, entered the south ditch and struck a utility pole, according to a press release.
The pole snapped, and Cases' car rolled over at least once before coming to rest on its side in brush south of the road.
Responding officers found Case, the only occupant, unresponsive on the ground about 30 feet from the car. Case was not wearing his seatbelt, and authorities believe he struck a small tree limb as he was thrown from the car.
Alcohol appears to be the only contributing factor, and deputies issued a drunken driving citation to Case at Mercy Hospital. He was listed in good condition there this morning.
The broken utility pole caused minor power outages and closed a portion of County O until repair work was completed.
-- At about 2:22 a.m. Sunday at Lakeland Campground, 2803 E. Highway 59, in Milton Township.
Authorities responded to the campground to find an injured golf cart passenger, Bruce R. Rebholz, 49, Muskego.
Rebholz was ejected from the golf cart when the driver, Mark L. Darkow, 47, Muskego, made a sharp left turn, according to the sheriff's department.
Rebholz was taken to Mercy Hospital with "a significant head injury," and was in critical condition this morning, according to reports.
Deputies arrested Darkow at the scene on a charge of causing injury by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.
Alcohol and carelessness are considered contributing factors in this accident, according to the sheriff's department.
