Two arrested in ID theft investigation

BELOIT TOWNSHIP-Police seized more than $8,000 cash, credit cards and false identification and arrested two California people in an identity theft investigation Friday.

Officers responded to a fraud report at 12:51 p.m. Friday at M&I Bank, 2850 S. Prairie Ave., Beloit. One of the suspects was trying to get a cash advance on a fake credit card, officer Mike Bogdonas said.

Police discovered the suspects' vehicle in the 2600 block of Prairie Avenue, Beloit, and arrested:

-- Elasha L. Young, 20, of Sacramento, Calif. on charges of possession of stolen credit cards and identity theft.

-- Karen M. Thurner, 27, Sacramento Calif., on charges of possession of stolen credit cards, identity theft and a fugitive complaint.

Janesville, Chicago and Sacramento police as well as the U.S. Secret Service have been asked to assist in the investigation.

The suspects are being held in the Rock County Jail and were to scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.
