The Janesville School District is seeking public input as it reviews its programming for students who are gifted and talented.
The Janesville Talented and Gifted Parent and Teacher Organization will host a conversation at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Educational Services Center, 527 S. Franklin St. Any parent of students enrolled in Janesville schools is welcome to attend. Please RSVP to Vicki Hilt at (608) 743-5044.
During September and October, a team of reviewers will hold focus group discussions, visit classrooms and meet with various groups of district staff.
The review team consists of:
-- Sally Y. Walker, executive director of the Illinois Association for Gifted Children.
-- Pamela Clinkenbeard, UW-Whitewater professor of educational foundations and member of the executive board of the Wisconsin Association for Talented and Gifted.
-- Patricia Lesstrang, principal of Riverside Elementary School in the D.C. Everest School District, which houses a magnet challenge program for grades 1 through 5 that is similar to the Janesville district's Challenge Program.
-- Deb Douglas, International Baccalaureate coordinator and former gifted program coordinator for the Manitowoc public schools. Douglas also serves on the Executive Board of the Wisconsin Association for Talented and Gifted.
