LAKE GENEVA-If any single incident led to the near-denial of Carvetti's liquor license, it was a report of a confrontation between police and a bouncer June 9, according to Lake Geneva Alderman Gary Dunham, chairman of the finance, license and judicial committee.
"One of the bouncers and the security manager were very belligerent," Dunham said.
That doesn't sit well with the police department.
A Lake Geneva officer confronted the bouncer, who was yelling at another man-a bar patron-in front of the Olympic Restaurant. The restaurant is about a block from the tavern.
According to police, the officer had difficulty quieting the bouncer while ticketing the patron for disorderly conduct.
Later that morning, a woman filed a complaint against the bouncer, claiming he pushed her while outside the restaurant. The bouncer did not deny the incident, reportedly telling police he pushed the woman because she "got in the way."
The bouncer, Walter Burgin, was cited for disorderly conduct the next day. Burgin complained, saying he was being cited because he's black.
Police deny race has anything to do with the ticket.
