LA CROSSE, Wis. - Tom Peterson, a local restaurant owner who also runs a snowplowing business, pocketed nearly $200,000 in the World Series of Poker main event in Las Vegas.
Peterson was eliminated Saturday, finishing 52nd out of 6,358 contestants in the main event, which began July 6 and ends Tuesday. The finish earned him $190,053.
"It was a blast," Peterson told the La Crosse Tribune on Sunday. "I've got something to work on now" for next year.
He paid $10,000 to buy in to the event, his third. In 2005 he won $16,055 by finishing 433rd out of 5,619 players. He didn't win anything last year.
Peterson hasn't decided how he'll spend his winnings, but he does know that he'll play again next year - and every year after that.
"I don't plan to ever miss it," he said. "This is the biggest rush of your life."
