A Janesville woman was in critical condition this morning after being bumped by a postal vehicle and hitting her head on the street Thursday afternoon.

Genevieve A. Slayton, 76, of 923 Osborne Ave., told police she was walking up to a U.S. Postal Service truck to hand mail to a letter carrier.

Arthur F. Camp, 47, of 526 Vision Drive, Evansville, was driving the truck on North Grant Avenue north of Conway Drive in Janesville at 2:59 p.m. Thursday, police reported.

Camp told officers he had just put mail in a box and was starting to move forward.

Slayton fell backward and hit her head on the pavement, police reported.

Camp was ticketed for inattentive driving.
