CLINTONVILLE, Wis. - City officials told the 2,000 water customers of the Clintonville Utilities to boil water they use for drinking and cooking after a water main break drained the entire system early Friday.
The boil order will remain in effect while chlorine levels to disinfect the supply are monitored for potency. The state Department of Natural Resources will decide on lifting the ban Sunday depending on test results.
The DNR requires a boil order as a precaution against contaminants entering the system during low-pressure conditions.
Amy Kuhn of the DNR said bacteriological sampling will be conducted to ensure the water is safe.
The boil water precaution should be followed until a public notice is issued that the supply has returned to safe conditions, she said.
The cause of the water main break was not immediately determined.
