WAUKESHA, Wis. - A man accused of using a police officer's Taser on him during an altercation after a traffic stop was being sought Tuesday following an escape from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, authorities said.
Corey T. Rehm, 42, of Dousman, had been taken to the Oshkosh facility Saturday after Waukesha County Jail staffers had indications he was trying to harm himself, Sheriff's Department Detective Steve Pederson said.
Rehm was charged last week with battery to a police officer, disarming a police officer, resisting an officer, fleeing an officer, second-offense drunken driving, possession of an electric weapon and intentionally pointing a firearm at an officer.
Pederson said Rehm was believed to have initially fled Winnebago to a relative's home in the Okauchee area, and could still be in the Milwaukee-Waukesha area.
Rehm is considered a danger to himself as well as others after making threats that "he wouldn't be taken alive," according to Waukesha Sheriff's Capt. Jeff Smidt.
The criminal complaint said last week's incident began Wednesday night when a Dousman officer stopped Rehm's truck for a taillight violation and, after some questioning, Rehm returned to his vehicle and fled.
Rehm later pulled into a driveway, got out of the truck and was pursued on foot, authorities said.
After being hit twice by volleys from the officer's Taser, Rehm allegedly punched and kicked him, gained control of the stun gun and discharged it on the officer.
Rehm ran to a nearby cornfield and hid, the complaint said, but subsequently surrendered.
